The Pianists
Twenty years – four hands
When Cornelia Kohler opened her piano school in Markt Bibart in 2006, Emma Weigand was among her first pupils. Twenty years later, they shared the grand piano at the anniversary concert. Those first lessons have grown into a deep musical understanding: an idea passes from one voice to the other, both shaping the same sound while leaving room for each other.
Cornelia Kohler
Cornelia began playing the piano at the age of five. She enjoyed success in the “Jugend musiziert” competition and studied music education, majoring in piano with Professor Gabriel Rosenberg. After graduating in 2006, she received an advancement award from the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg-Augsburg.
In 2018, she received the “Excellent Tutor Award” for her teaching and competition preparation. For several years, she has regularly shared favourite pieces on her YouTube channel “Pianothings”, keeping the focus on her hands and the piano.
Emma Weigand
Emma’s musical journey began with Cornelia from her very first lessons. Together with violinist Helen Walz, she won first prizes at “Jugend musiziert” in 2015 and 2016, followed by a second prize in solo piano in 2017. She performed and attended masterclasses at the “Naturalmente Pianoforte” festival in Tuscany.
After completing secondary school, she trained as a chemical laboratory technician. Rhythm and movement also accompany her away from the keyboard: at the time of the anniversary concert, she had been horse riding for 21 years and dancing for more than four years.
This concert celebrated more than twenty years of Piano School Markt Bibart. It also showed what years of working together can create when teacher and pupil become partners at one instrument.
Music for piano four hands – from Brahms and Schubert to The Carnival of the Animals.
Johannes Brahms
Waltzes, Op. 39
Selection: Nos. 1, 10, 11, 4 and 15
About the work
Five miniatures opened the evening, moving between joyful energy and quiet wistfulness. Each waltz begins a new little scene with a character of its own.
Stefan Kraus
Tempus non fugit
About the work
The past remains present, and a single moment can feel endless. In this work, time becomes an inner space in which memories linger.
Franz Schubert
Fantasy in F minor, Op. 103 (D 940)
About the work
A quiet, questioning idea leads through lyrical calm, dramatic outbursts and a fugue. The sections flow into one another without a break; at the end, the opening returns like a memory.
Interval
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Sonata in C major, K. 521
I. Allegro · II. Andante · III. Allegretto
About the work
A musical conversation for two: the voices take up each other’s ideas and carry them forward. The brilliance of the Allegro gives way to the calm of the Andante and the lightness of the finale.
Camille Saint-Saëns

Musical animal portraits full of wit and imagination: a lion strides, tortoises move slowly, and the aquarium begins to shimmer. Even the pianists join the menagerie. The swan brings a moment of stillness before the finale sets everyone in motion again.
